Welcome to Dead House

My love for R.L. Stine and his "spooky" works dates back to the very first of the Goosebumps series. I was a 2nd grader and the Scholastic book order was the thing at school everyone anticipated!

I remember taking it home and timidly asking my Mom if I could order "Welcome to Dead House". I remember being timid about it because it had the word dead in the title, and I didn't think she'd be willing to allow me to have it!  But it didn't seem to phase her and soon the anticipated book was on its way!

I don't remember ever reading said book... I wasn't much of a reader back then, but when I saw this in the "deal" bin at our local secondhand book dealers I snatched it up for $1.99 which was only a Dollar cheaper than it's original listing price.

I read it over the past couple weeks and I have to say, R.L. Stine I tip my hat to your ways of writing. I didn't think that this book would be spooky in any way, but It actually was! The jist of the story is the Benson Family moves to "Dark Falls" into a house in a neighborhood where its residents were killed in an accident from a chemical factory and now walk the Earth as zombies. Every year these people need "Fresh Blood" to keep their city going. The Bensons are their prey as the kids try to rescue their parents.

I was pretty excited to snatch this book, so excited that I managed to get my original collection back from my cousins kids (who weren't reading them either). I will have to read/review these books as the year goes on as they all just got packed into our storage unit. But the bottom line is, don't be afraid to pick one of these up off the shelves at your local second hand store - they're worth a read!

  1. Never read any of the Goosebumps. My daughter loved them, had a bunch and would always check them out of the library!
